Masala Chai मसाला चाय - Shashi
Ingredients
- 1 cup Milk
- ¼ cup Water
- 1 tbsp Sugar
- 1 tbsp Black tea Indian Darjeeling/Assam tea (loose tea, not tea bags)
Masala Whole Spices
- 2 Green cardamon
- 4 Black peppercorns
- ½ inch Ginger
- 1 Clove
Masala Tea Powder
- 10 g Dry basil
- 10 g Nut nutmeg
- 10 g Ginger powder
- 10 g Green cardamon
- 10 g Black pepper
Instructions
Masala Whole Spices
- Grind the whole spices roughly in a mortar and pestle.
- Add all ingredients into a small saucepan and place on the stove.
Masala Tea Powder
- If preparing the Masala Tea Powder, blend everything in a blender.
- Add a pinch of the Masala Tea Powder and the rest of the ingredients into a small saucepan and place on the stove.

- Bring to a boil, reduce the heat and simmer for around 4 minutes, stirring occasionally. The Chai should start to turn a coffee brown color, and you should start to smell the flavors of the Masala.
- Once it is done, pour the tea into a glass through a strainer to remove the solid pieces.
